The present bridge was constructed in 1936 and is on the Swanlinbar river which rises in Co Cavan.
"Riverview", Derryvrane, Thompsons Bridge, Co Fermanagh was the address of the Farmhouse.
If you look at this river on the web you’ll see that it is one of the rivers in Europe in which oysters can be found and to where numerous professional oyster fishermen used to come and fish for them years ago.
It is also an Area of Special Scientific Interest:
"The Upper Cladagh (Swanlinbar) River is of particular importance for the Freshwater Pearl Mussel (Margaritifera margaritifera). It is one of the few rivers in Northern Ireland that still retains a significant and viable population of this rare shellfish. In addition, the Atlantic Stream Crayfish (Austropotamobius papipes) is also found. Otters (Lutra lutra) and Kingfishers (Alcedo atthis) are present along the length of the river."
